Staying dry next to the skin is one of the most important factors in maintaining comfort and body temperature during activity. The Elemental Layer® is designed to manage sweat at its source, working together with your base layer as part of a complete layering system. In this guide, we’ll walk through how the Elemental Layer® works, how to choose the right fit, and how to wear it correctly to get the most out of its performance.
1) What Does It Do?
The Elemental Layer® is a water-repellent mesh underwear layer designed to be worn directly against the skin, underneath a moisture-absorbing base layer.
Even when you continue to sweat, it helps keep your skin dry and reduces the risk of getting chilled by moisture. The key lies in its water-repellent mesh structure. Sweat passes through the fine openings in the mesh and is absorbed by the layer worn on top. At the same time, because the Elemental Layer® itself repels water, it prevents moisture from returning to the skin, even when the outer layer becomes wet with sweat.
The result is simple but powerful: drier skin, improved comfort, and more stable body temperature during activity..
2) How Do You Choose the Right Size?
The Elemental Layer® works best when worn directly against the skin, without gaps. Close contact allows sweat to move away from the skin efficiently and helps prevent moisture from returning once it has been transferred.
Choose a size that fits the body snugly, but not uncomfortably tight. For tops, select your size based on chest measurement; for bottoms, use waist and hip measurements as your guide. A close fit across larger surface areas, especially in zones that tend to sweat more, improves moisture transfer and helps reduce the risk of sweat chill during activity.
3) How Should You Wear It?
Wear the Elemental Layer® directly against the skin, with a moisture-absorbing layer worn on top. That’s all there is to it.
If you don’t feel the expected effect, the size may be too large, or the layer worn over it may not be compatible. Take a look at the CHECK POINTS below to make sure your setup is working as intended.
(1) Wear the Elemental Layer® directly against the skin
(2) Wear moisture-absorbing base layer on top
CHECK POINT 1
Does the Elemental Layer® fit closely against your skin?
If there are areas where the fabric does not follow the contours of the body, gaps can form. In these areas, sweat can remain trapped instead of being transferred away from the skin.
CHECK POINT 2
Is the moisture-absorbing base layer worn over it working effectively?
Sweat generated at the skin passes through the mesh openings of the Elemental Layer® and is absorbed by the layer worn on top. If a base layer with poor moisture absorption is used, sweat may remain on the skin instead of being pulled away from the body.
CHECK POINT 3
Do the Elemental Layer® and the layer worn over it fit properly together?
If there is too much space between the Elemental Layer® and the layer worn on top, the outer layer cannot effectively absorb sweat through the Elemental Layer®.
When worn and layered correctly, the Elemental Layer® helps keep sweat away from the skin, reducing the risk of sweat chill and improving comfort across a wide range of conditions. A proper fit, a compatible moisture-absorbing base layer, and close contact between layers are all key to making the system work as intended. Dial in these details, and your layering system will support you more effectively, allowing you to focus on movement and time outdoors.
